MB&F has produced some magical contraceptions over the years including spaceships and creepy crawlies. As the brand first started, robots were on the top of their minds. Now, MB&F has introduced Grant, a a robot clock sitting on three wheeled tracks that can transform.

The name comes from the American M3 Lee “Grant” tank of the Second World War. Weighing at 2.34kg, the clock os designed by MB&F and built by Swiss clockmaker L’Epée 1839. The robot has been made out of steel, nickel-plated and palladium-plated brass, while standing on three continuous rubber tracks and is made from 268 components.

In terms of powering this robot clock, it is powered by L’Epée’s in-line eight-day movement, with time displayed on a shield across its back. To protect the balance and escapement, there is a little glass dome surrounding. The clock is equipped with regulators to reduce risk of damage while moving.

To wind up this power movement, on the side of the dial there is a double-depth square socket key, which is mounted on the robot’s right hand, doubling up as a cannon.

What differs from this new and improved robot clock, is its ability to transform. In its lowest position, the dial is horizontal and almost parallel with the table. The dial can also be set at 45 degrees for an optimal viewing angle as a desk clock, and also vertical at 90 degrees.

Grant measures 166mm tall at its tallest standing position, and just 115mm high when flat.
