This is in fact the second partnership between Omega and Fratellowatches as their first collaboration was the first Speedy Tuesday Speedmaster launched back in 2017. In addition to the orange center seconds hand, the new Ultraman also has orange hour markers, and a black and orange tachymetric bezel; the word “Speedmaster” is in orange as well. To pay tribute to the Japanese tv-show, there is a hidden silhouette of Ultraman in the small seconds subdial at 9:00.

The Omega Speedmaster Hodinkee 10th Anniversary Limited Edition is inspired by a 1990s Speedmaster “Mark 40” owned by Clymer’s grandfather. This specific watch is the one that sparked the interest of watches for Benjamin Clymer. The timepiece was specifically a Speedmaster Day-Date ref. 375.0084 from 1996. The watch has a prolific nickname, “Michael Schumacher”, after ads featuring the watch and the F1 driver.

The Hodinkee Speedmaster is part of the Speedmaster CK 2998 Moonwatch remake collection. Each of these watches have the same 39.7mm steel case, aluminium bezel insert and the hand-wound, Lemania-derived cal. 1861 inside. Mixing together a MoonWatch with a Speedmaster is something very unusual but came out to be very well executed.

In the picture above, the left Speedmaster is the original model from the 1990s compared to the renewed version on the right. The key elements from the previous model version remained and were perfected in the new Hodinkee Speedmaster.

The twin central hands on the original (for elapsed seconds and the date pointer) have been merged into a seconds hand tipped with yellow “wings”. The timepiece has a solid back with the Speedmaster horse engraved on it. Around it you can find the engravements with commemorative text on its rim.

The remake edition is delivered on a grey leather strap that appears very nice. The Speedmaster Hodinkee 10th Anniversary is limited to 500 pieces, priced at US$6500. It’ll be available at Omega boutiques within the United States and also the Hodinkee shop online. Deliveries commence in November 2018.

1.Omega Speedmaster CK 2998 Pulsometer

This chronograph list would not be complete without adding this years Omega Speedmasters. This watch channels superiority and purity that has made Omega Speedmasters a fan favorite.  It’s a beautiful object tied to a wonderful and important chronograph lineage. The CK 2998 Pulsometer is priced at $6,500 and could be the watch of any chronograph lover.

2. Montblanc 1858 Automatic Chronograph

When talking about aesthetics this Montblanc 1858 Automatic Chronograph is very well attractive and well made. Its stainless steel case measuring at 42mm has a dial that features a gorgeous black dial with arabic numerals which brings in vintage tastes. With a reliable Sellita SW500 movement, this timepiece is all you can ask for in a chronograph. This Montblanc chronograph is a good choice at a great price of $4,300.

3. Sinn 103 SA BE LE

The first thing that caught my eye when looking at the Sinn 103 SA BE LE, is the beautiful sunburst blue dial. With a lightly tanned lume, and a rich blue aluminum bezel, it is worn on a creamy leather strap. This 41mm chronograph is limited to 500 pieces with a 7750 ticking movement. This is a perfect chronograph for an everyday wear priced at $2,600. 

Leading up to the start of the Ryder Cup in September 28, Omega has released the official timekeeper for the Ryder Cup in the form of specially branded 41mm Seamaster Aqua Terra. Many may be familiar with this model that includes a stainless steel and an antimagnetic movement that has been certified as a Master Chronometer. The only differences being that this timepieces has gold accents throughout the dial, strap, and caseback. The central seconds hand are made from 18k gold, while the case back has a 24k gold rendering of the Ryder Cup logo applied to its surface. The presentation of the watch comes in a neat box and along with a stainless steel bracelet.

The Co-Axial calibers are one of the most technological and most advance examples of mechanical watches that can be found in the watchmaking world. The Aqua Terra model on a steel bracelet is $5,500 and in its basic form at $5,400. This watch has a very nice look with its gold accents and is perfect for the golf lover or enthusiast.

Nick Hayek, CEO of the Swatch Group, has been recently interviewed by Swiss newspaper NZZ am Sonntag and explains that such watch fairs like Baselworld create costs and expenses that could be avoided. Costs include travel expenses and accommodation that ring up CHF 50 million for the group. Over the years, the market has changed much of what it used to be, which is another reason Swatch Group will not be exhibiting their watches at Baselworld 2019.

Since 2015, Baselworld has seen many brand departures and the number of brands from 2015 went from 1,500 brands to less than 700 brands in 2018. These departures are a great impact on the watch and jewelry fair. Another problem faced by Baselworld is several management crises due to suspicion of nepotism.

As Rolex and Breitling will be present in 2019, everyone is curious to see the impact of the Swatch Group departing from the largest watch fair in Switzerland. This could be the start to the end of Baselworld.

Before many of you start giving it mixed feelings about this watch, it is actually a pretty nice watch that fits a casual look. This Omega is dubbed ‘Denim’ for a couple reasons. At first glance you see the striated denim dial that looks neat. Also, the use of denim for one of the bracelets with leather accents and finishing. The denim on denim look with the dial and bracelet does not really catch my eye but when you switch it out for the steel bracelet, that looks special!

The brushed steel case measures 40 millimeters across with 20-millimeter lugs. The central second hand has a burnt orange finish to match the Railmaster text on the dial. The crystal is double-domed sapphire with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. This case is also rated to up to 150 meters.

Although this timepiece could bring in mixed reviews about its look, this new Railmaster looks very neat with a nice casual look. On the denim strap, the Omega Railmaster Co-Axial Master Chronometer “Denim” is $4,900, and on a steel bracelet it’s $5,000. As you can see, many of the watches for the 2020 Collection have been inspired from existing or discontinued models. Three of the five watches are in stainless steel while the other two have gold aspects included. The Apollo 15 35th anniversary edition is one of those watches used to inspire this collection. The watches are limited to up to 2020 pieces and can be bought as the set of five. The set of five is limited to 55 pieces.

Every watch has ‘Speedmaster’ printed onto the dial in a deep red. On every of these Speedmasters, the case back it features an engraving of the Olympic Rings and the official logo for the 2020 Olympic Games. Some are worried that these watches are too close to the original watches used to inspire this collection. However, these watches will only be available in Japan via the Omega boutiques.

Prices are 680.400 Yen for the stainless steel models, which converts to approximately 5225 Euro. The bi-colour models are a bit more expensive, at 842.400 Yen, equals approximately 6470 Euro.
