Also known as Day of the Dead, it is an annual event at the end of October celebrated in Mexico meant to remember the dearly departed, explaining the liberal use of skulls on the L.U.C Perpetual T, named after the Mexican patron saint of death, which boasts a perpetual calendar, (invisible) tourbillon regulator and nine-day power reserve. It makes for surely the most extravagant, and oddly appealing, L.U.C complicated wristwatch in a long, long time.

The dial is a solid 18k gold disc with a radial guilloche edge and a hand-engraved skull that’s been painted with black lacquer. Each of the sub-dials for the perpetual calendar form the eyes, while the skull has mother of pearl inlaid for its teeth, and the black-coated tourbillon bridge forms a moustache of sorts. But because of the dial design, the tourbillon is entirely hidden, a discretion almost unheard of in modern watchmaking.

The case is a large 43mm, and in 18k rose gold, with the front, sides and crown fully engraved by hand. The L.U.C Perpetual T Spirit of la Santa Muerte (ref. 161941-5005) is a unique creation, priced at SFr244,500. However, similar timepieces are available as custom orders.

The new H2O evolved from that initial design that offers new perspectives on the horological object.  This H²0 Brown comes on a stainless-steel case with an earthy brown PVD coating. At first glance, it looks soft when it comes to touch it feels as it has been polished by sea waters and feels nice and soft. Everything is round and fluid in this timepiece. On the backside we could see the roundness where the double barrel hovers over the two rhodium-plated bellows.

This timepiece represents both science and art. It is pure innovation mixed with the symbolism of art. The fluidic system  and the mechanical caliber is a very advance technology made specifically for HYT by APRP. The watch brings out an ‘earthy’ feeling with the rich brown colored case, the platina, and the bridges. The red color evokes the blood of earth, lava. Adding the red fluid slowly replaces the transparent one, embodying the future. HYT makes this reference more enhanced by adding the red-tinted sapphire crystal case back.  At the back, the past, mechanical, red; at the front, the future, fluidic, transparent, who wouldn’t want this timepiece?

The main eye catcher in this watch is mainly the skull in the dial. A patented fluidic module and exclusive mechanical calibre bring this to life. The colored liquid brings reflection to the watch which is a main symbol.

The coolest part about this piece is the intimidating eyes. No matter what, just giving this watch a little stare will definitely intimidate you in some way. Behind the right eye is a rotating disc expressing the passing of each precious second as it fades from dark to pale.

Most importantly, light and color really brings this watch to life. The three versions each incorporate their colors respectively.

This deliberate tension fascinates the eye, as does the effect of light on the differently treated, unmistakably modern grey surfaces. The watches come equipped on grey fabric straps with accents that  matches each respective skull colours.

Zenith has created a new movement to pair with lovely beauty. The Gravity Control mechanism that was found in the limited Christophe Colomb series of watches, has been paired with an El Primero, high-frequency movement. This movement could not upset as the housing regulates the tourbillion to keep it horizontal at all times. Zenith also re-engineered the system so it is not as large as it was in the Zenith Colomb watches.

Zenith did a great job keeping the watch as open and visible as possible for everyone can enjoy the beauty inside this watch. The Zenith Defy Zero G is available in either titanium or rose gold and on either an alligator-leather and rubber strap or a bracelet. A true looker.

My first thought about this watch is just how futuristic and artistic this watch looks. MB&F has kept this style and design for over 20 years. In these machines you can definitely always find a Sci-Fi vibe in MB&F’s work. And HM9 is no different, with its twin lateral pods somewhat evocative (if you’re a Star Wars fan) of the iconic twin-pod Cloud Cars seen zipping around the airborne city of Bespin in The Empire Strikes Back.

Although this resembles a lot from Sci-Fi movies such as Star Wars, the main inspiration behind this watch is the automotive realm. More automotive enthusiasts, this is a watch that would really catch their eye. It’s also one of the most mechanically sophisticated Horological Machines as well.

This type of mechanism was first introduced into wristwatches by Philippe Dufour, in his Duality wristwatch. HM9 will come in two variations – the Air version will have a dark movement and cockpit-instrument styled dial, while the Road version will have a rose gold-plated movement and speedometer-styled dial.

The Omega Speedmaster Hodinkee 10th Anniversary Limited Edition is inspired by a 1990s Speedmaster “Mark 40” owned by Clymer’s grandfather. This specific watch is the one that sparked the interest of watches for Benjamin Clymer. The timepiece was specifically a Speedmaster Day-Date ref. 375.0084 from 1996. The watch has a prolific nickname, “Michael Schumacher”, after ads featuring the watch and the F1 driver.

The Hodinkee Speedmaster is part of the Speedmaster CK 2998 Moonwatch remake collection. Each of these watches have the same 39.7mm steel case, aluminium bezel insert and the hand-wound, Lemania-derived cal. 1861 inside. Mixing together a MoonWatch with a Speedmaster is something very unusual but came out to be very well executed.

In the picture above, the left Speedmaster is the original model from the 1990s compared to the renewed version on the right. The key elements from the previous model version remained and were perfected in the new Hodinkee Speedmaster.

The twin central hands on the original (for elapsed seconds and the date pointer) have been merged into a seconds hand tipped with yellow “wings”. The timepiece has a solid back with the Speedmaster horse engraved on it. Around it you can find the engravements with commemorative text on its rim.

The remake edition is delivered on a grey leather strap that appears very nice. The Speedmaster Hodinkee 10th Anniversary is limited to 500 pieces, priced at US$6500. It’ll be available at Omega boutiques within the United States and also the Hodinkee shop online. Deliveries commence in November 2018.

The 41mm Grade 5 titanium case is blacked-out with a PVD coating. The bezel is a unidirectional rotating bezel that is made from carbon fibers. These cases are rated to 300 metres of water resistance. Inside you can find the automatic Calibre 5 movement. The colors that separate each watch in the collection are  blue, yellow, or rose gold. These color highlights can be see through the dial and on the nylon straps.

A similar Tag Heuer timepiece is the TAG Heuer Monaco Bamford, which has similar carbon characteristics as AquaRacer Carbon Collection. The Carbon Collection is deemed to be a growing collection for Tag Heuer.

The trademarked tonneau-shaped case measures at 42mm is exclusive to Hublot boutiques and only limited to 100 pieces worldwide. When it comes to Hublot Big Bang watches, they seem to always capture that Art Fusion mantra. The case is crafted from microblasted and polished blue ceramic, it features white composite resin side inserts, a set of titanium screws, and titanium pushers and crown that are finished with an insert made of rubber.

Inside the case it features a HUB4700 automatic chronograph movement with a power reserve of 50 hours. Running at a rate of 5Hz, some may recognize this movement as the same in Zenith’s El Primero timepiece. To match wonderfully with case, a blue alligator strap is added to create this masterpiece.

3. Sinn 103 SA BE LE

The first thing that caught my eye when looking at the Sinn 103 SA BE LE, is the beautiful sunburst blue dial. With a lightly tanned lume, and a rich blue aluminum bezel, it is worn on a creamy leather strap. This 41mm chronograph is limited to 500 pieces with a 7750 ticking movement. This is a perfect chronograph for an everyday wear priced at $2,600.
