Although watches with gem-set stones are not a common thing seen on men watches, when the creation, tastefulness, and placement of the stones are placed, it creates a wonderful timepiece. These watches appeal to every person of each gender, not just men. Most watches created with gemstones are usually toward the women’s watch market. As of 2018, it seems as gem-set watches for men are making a comeback back into the market. In this list, I will portray the top three gem-set stones released in 2018 that can fit a man’s style.

1. Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona

Since its start in 1963, the Rolex Daytona was not pictured to end up this way. This Daytona is crafted in 18-karat pink gold and adorned with a precious rainbow of gemstones. This gives reason to the nickname of this Rolex, “Rainbow.” The gems set on this Rolex sport chronograph is placed around the bezel instead of the tachymeter scale. There are a total of a whopping 103 gems ranging from brilliant-cut diamonds to 47 baguette-cut colored sapphires.

– Case: 40 x 12.8 mm, pink gold
– Movement: automatic Caliber 4130, 72-hour power reserve, chronograph column wheel and vertical clutch, blue Parachrom hairspring, C.O.S.C. chronometer certified
– Price: $96,900

2. Chopard L.U.C. Heritage Grand Cru

Chopard specializes in amazing gem-set watches using sensational gemstones, but these watches re usually made for the female-orientated models. A Chopard timepiece with gemstones made for men is not a common thing found. This L.U.C. Heritage Grand Cru model is special for two reasons. The first being that it is made with a tonneau shape which is very rare for Chopard and also because it is inspired by co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s passionate love of fine wine. A very special feature of its appearance is that even though it is set with 3.05 carats’ worth of beautiful baguette-shaped diamonds, its appearance remains understated and very masculine.

– Case: 38.5 x 38.8 x 7.74 mm, white gold
– Diamonds: 40 baguette-cut diamonds (3.05 ct) around bezel
– Movement: automatic Caliber L.U.C 97.01-L with 22-karat gold micro rotor, Twin Technology twin spring barrels, 65-hour power reserve, swan-neck fine adjustment, C.O.S.C. chronometer certified
– Price: $41,000

3. Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Sapphire Rainbow

Over the years, Hublot has had great success with their range of dazzling timepieces. A key factor that plays a major part in the success of these watches, is the transparency of the watch. Adding a layer of colorful gemstones to a transparent watch really enhances the color of the gemstones. Another model that is very similar to this one is the Big Bang One Click Sapphire.

– Case: 42 mm, sapphire crystal with transparent composite resin and 18-karat white gold bezel
– Gems: 54 baguette-cut colored sapphires, amethysts, rubies, topazes, and tsavorites around bezel
– Movement: automatic Caliber HUB4700, 50-hour power reserve
– Limitation: 50 pieces

When going through watch brands the first idea that comes to mind is watches from Switzerland. They are known as the premiere of watchmaking. These minds of watch engineering traveled through to neighboring Germany and since has had great efforts and excellence as the Swiss watches. Over the years, Germans have been producing fine wristwatches just as Switzerland has. Below will be listed five watch brands from Germany that paved the great watchmaking excellence in Germany.

1. A. Lange & Söhne

Known as one of the first German watch brand, A. Lange & Söhne is not one of the oldest watch in Germany but also in the world. The Galshutte based brand was founded in 1845 and paved most of the way for other watch brands to prove greatness in Germany. Ferdinand Adolph Lange used his son as his primary work force to produce the best watches in the town. A. Lange & Sönhne changed their style as the World’s War II soldiers wore wristwatches in the trenches. After the war the new Soviet government split companies like A. Lange & Söhne and was put out of business. After the reunification of Germany, the started producing again fine wristwatches and soon twenty years later brought the company back to life.

2. Junghans

Life on the East side of the Berlin Wall was very spartan and minimalistic during the 1940s and 1950s. Junghans made the most of the post war life. Founded by Ernhard Jungians in 1860, it was not until 1956 when the company started working with Max Bill in 1956 when the watches actually came to existence. While Max Bill applied the minimalistic style, Junghans took its attractive wall clocks and made them into fine wristwatches.

3. Mont Blanc

Mostly known for its high-end pens, Mont Blanc is also popular for its luxury watches. Even though the company is purposely a German brand, they rely on Swiss expertise to produce their fine watches. In 1997 they started Le Locle, Switzerland to manufacture these timepieces and in the past decade they have just started producing their own in-house movements. Like TAG Heuer, Mont Blanc has also started to produce luxury smartwatches.

4. Sinn

As the watchmaking business gets tougher and tougher, Hemet Sinn knew exactly how to target the market and how to break into the watch business. Sinn started as a company producing pilot watches and navigational watches. Sinn targeted the market by reproducing watches that were affordable yet with great quality. This method launched Sinn to become a premier brand. These watches were durable and reliable that they were even used by astronaut Reinhard Furrer.

5. Chronoswiss

While some may wonder why this brand is in this German watch brand list, Chronoswiss was founded in Munchen, Germany. They also have headquarters in Lucerne, Switzerland and even has the name ‘Swiss’ in the brand name! Chronoswiss has produced top-tier watches and caught the market’s eye with its skeletonized chronographs and the very detailed crowns. Chronoswiss did so well with its timepieces which claims as co-founder of the mechanical renaissance.

The biggest watchmaking group, will be leaving the largest watch and jewelry fair in Switzerland, Baselworld as of 2019. This is not just ordinary news for Baselworld but rather breaking news as Swatch Group includes 18 brands such as Breguet, Omega, Tissot, and more. Over the past few years Baselworld has received many complaints and already several departures. With the biggest watchmaking group departing, this is a big blow for the Swiss fair.

Nick Hayek, CEO of the Swatch Group, has been recently interviewed by Swiss newspaper NZZ am Sonntag and explains that such watch fairs like Baselworld create costs and expenses that could be avoided. Costs include travel expenses and accommodation that ring up CHF 50 million for the group. Over the years, the market has changed much of what it used to be, which is another reason Swatch Group will not be exhibiting their watches at Baselworld 2019.

Since 2015, Baselworld has seen many brand departures and the number of brands from 2015 went from 1,500 brands to less than 700 brands in 2018. These departures are a great impact on the watch and jewelry fair. Another problem faced by Baselworld is several management crises due to suspicion of nepotism.

As Rolex and Breitling will be present in 2019, everyone is curious to see the impact of the Swatch Group departing from the largest watch fair in Switzerland. This could be the start to the end of Baselworld.

Many fake watches can be found in the streets and online through websites like Ebay. A big portion of fake watches are usually made in eastern parts of the world like China or Japan. Over the years their techniques of recreating fake watches have become better.

In the video below, Watchfinders and Co. will be showing the precise differences of a fake Rolex versus a real Rolex. The differences may not be seen with the human eye but when you magnify closer into the watch there are small details that show authenticity of the Rolex

Today is the day that Swiss Watchmakers creates their first blog!
Here’s what you can expect from this blog.

1. Watches (Well duh!)
2.Our Watchmakers (Interviews, explanations, etc.)
3.The work station (Tools, set up, techniques, etc.)
4.Things that have grabbed our attention

Well since this is the first blog post lets start with a little history.

Swiss Watchmakers was founded in the year 2000 by Patrick Desbiolles.
Before we continue with Swiss Watchmakers history lets talk about some small facts
about Patrick.

1. He Graduated from the university of Geneva
2. He was attracted to horology because his father was a watchmaker.
3. He is one of the best watchmakers in the U.S- This is Fact
4. Yes he is Swiss
5. Speaks French, English, Spanish

Ok so back to Swiss Watchmakers since the company began it has slowly expanded, starting with just Patrick at first to now having more than a handful of employees. Swiss Watchmakers needed to get its name out there so SwissWatchLand.com was created in the very late 2000’s. As of then the company formed an Online Watch Repair where customers who can’t come to us can send their time pieces. Since the beginning Swiss Watchmakers have gotten all kind of time pieces, from your standard Omega Speedmaster to IWC’s Grand complication or even a Vintage Patek-Phillip with world time priced over $700,000 USD.
Swiss Watchmakers works directly with watch brands as well as dealers and jewelers as of the launch of SwissWatchLand.com we now do work for normal people looking for a trustworthy Watch Repair Center.

Well that’s a small history of Swiss Watchmakers you’ll learn more about it as time goes on now to actually get to watches!
